Base Routes

17  Corbett’s Corner   ***

5.10b  # 13  SPORT  3p
Originally climbed on gear, trees and bushes by Roger Laurella in late seventies.
The route got cleaned and fully bolted by Adam Zok and Tom Harding in April 2021.

Comment: Great alternative start to the routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Route: Start at a deep corner, directly left of a large roof (chain-anchor).
Pitch 1 (5.5 30m): (Flick Start) Climb climber’s left past the base-roof, up the deep corner to the first bolt. Keep climbing straight up a series of slabs to the ledge above. At this large ledge move several metres to the climber’s right, into the prominent corner with the belay.
Pitch 2 (5.10b 32m): Climb the prominent right facing corner (5.10a) to a fair size tree stump. There, aim slightly left and exit this corner up a short overhang, on large jugs (5.10b). Now keep climbing straight up on jugs and technical climbing, to the belay at a ledge.
Pitch 3 (5.5 28m): Climb straight up some fun slabs, to the above Goat Ledge. Keep moving another 10 meters to the prominent Fir tree with the chain belay.

Route combination This route combines nicely with “Quit Counting”. Climb “Quit Counting” first, then walk down the Goat Ledge to the prominent rock outcrop (chain anchor), diagonally halfway down to the large Fir Tree rappel. From this rock outcrop rappel 34 metres to the huge Fir tree, located at the lower end of the Goat Ledge. Now rappel 2 pitches down “Corbett’s Corner” (28m, 32m), to the large starting ledge. Skip the bottom pitch of the Flick Start.

18  Quit Counting   ****

5.10d  # 16  SPORT  6p
This amazing route offers a perfect start to the directly above route “Restless Spirits”. If you already have climbed “Return of the Osprey”and you plan to climb the “Revelstoke Arête”, this route will give you a superb start up the lower wall.

Established: Ruedi Beglinger, Cam Molder, May 15, 2021
FFA: Ruedi Beglinger, Cam Molder, May 22, 2021

Start: As you walk up the approach trail, shortly below the Victor Lake Wall, take the trail turnoff to the right (sign). Follow the fixed rope to the start of Return of the Osprey, at the base of a steep step and prominent slabs above, single ringbolt. The fixed rope continues to the right, to the Trans-Canada and Pan-America.

Pitch 1 (5.10d 33m): Climb straight up a short buttress, to the 4th bolt. At this bolt do not traverse to the right, across the grass grown corner (Return of the Osprey). Instead, keep climbing straight up, following bolts. Eventually this pitch increases in difficulty, as you work yourself up some interesting slabs, to the belay.
Pitch 2 (5.10c 34m): Climb straight up, following bolts. Eventually you come to a roof. There, traverse delicate to the right, followed by a few more moves up a corner, to the belay.
Pitch 3 (5.10c 33m): Climb on technical moves up a tricky wall. This brings you to the above arête. Keep moving straight up, past ledges, to the next belay.
Pitch 4 (5.7 30m): Climb diagonally up to the right, to the above ledge. From there move straight up a second slab, to the large ledge above. Now aim slightly climber’s left and climb a prominent corner (split blocks) to the belay above.
Pitch 5 (5.10c 33m): Climb on technical moves diagonally up to the right. Eventually pull the small roof and after, enjoy some airy side-pulling to the above steep slabs. Now keep climbing straight up to the next large ledge. Move up this ledge to the base of the final wall with the belay.
Pitch 6 (5.9 25m): Climb this final wall to the above Goat Ledge with the top anchor.

Descent: A) Rappel 6 pitches down “Quit Counting” (25m, 33m, 30m, 33m, 34m, 33m)
B) Continue on climbing one of the many great routes above the Goat Ledge (Restless Spirits, Revelstoke Arête).

Route combination This route combines nicely with “Corbett’s Corner”.
